Did Twice's popularity come from Sixteen or their visuals?

Those that say Sixteen brought their popularity: "If it wasn't Sixteen, they wouldn't have gotten attention from the media and gain a fandom."

Those that say their visuals brought their popularity: "Their first week sales were only 8K and on the first day, their song almost charted out. Sixteen didn't help. Since Twice started promoting, they gained fans with their visuals."

1. [+68, -8] I think it's visuals. When Twice debuted, I expected them to chart at #1 on Melon but they didn't. Their song climbed back on the chart in January and went up to #6. Doesn't this prove enough that it's their visuals rather than Sixteen?
